Nighttime snowshoeing above La Clusaz with a Savoyard meal

A winter hike by headlamp, amid silence, snow, and a restaurant

Explore the mountains at dusk with a nighttime snowshoe hike in La Clusaz, on the magnificent Plateau des Follières.

This snowshoe hike is tailored to the group’s skill level and current conditions. Depending on snow coverage, weather, and accessibility, the outing may take place in various areas of Haute-Savoie: the Beauregard Plateau, Les Confins, Semnoz, the Glières Plateau, or other suitable routes between the Bornes, Aravis, and Bauges mountain ranges.

We’ll hike through the forests and alpine pastures typical of Haute-Savoie, in a peaceful and authentic setting, with exceptional panoramic views of the iconic peaks of the Alps, including Mont Blanc, La Tournette, and the Aravis Range.

As we make our way, you’ll be able to admire the sunset over the snow-capped peaks while making your own tracks in the fresh snow—an immersive experience in the heart of winter’s natural beauty.

After about two hours of snowshoeing, by the light of our headlamps or under the moonlight, it will be time to take off your snowshoes and enjoy a cozy moment over a well-deserved Savoyard meal.

F.A.Q

Yes, the outing may be suitable for beginners if conditions are favorable. The route is chosen based on the group’s skill level, the weather, snow conditions, and the desired duration. The goal is to enjoy a pleasant and safe experience without excessive difficulty.

Yes, the whole point of this outing is to experience the unique atmosphere of the mountains in the evening. Part of the hike takes place at dusk or at night, using headlamps when necessary. On clear nights, the moon and the snow can also provide beautiful natural light.

Be sure to bring warm, winter-appropriate clothing, waterproof shoes, gloves, a hat, water, and a small backpack. A headlamp may be necessary, depending on the planned activity. Practical details will be confirmed before the outing.

Why choose a nighttime snowshoe hike in Haute-Savoie?

Nighttime snowshoeing offers a very different experience from a typical daytime outing. As soon as the light fades, the mountains become quieter, gentler, and more mysterious. The snow transforms sounds, landmarks shift, and walking by headlamp light adds a more immersive dimension to the hike.

Around Annecy, the Semnoz offers an easily accessible winter outing with a genuine mountain atmosphere as soon as there’s enough snow. It’s a great area for organizing an evening snowshoe hike without straying too far from the Annecy region.

Near La Clusaz, there are plenty of options for enjoying a more alpine atmosphere. The Plateau de Beauregard, Les Confins, and certain routes in the Aravis Mountains offer beautiful settings for a nighttime snowshoe hike, featuring open landscapes, forest trails, and sometimes magnificent views of the surrounding peaks.

One of the great appeals of this activity is also its social aspect. Depending on the package you choose, the outing can be followed by a Savoyard meal at a restaurant. After walking in the snow, the contrast with the warmth of a shared meal makes the experience even more memorable.

Guidance from a mountain professional is essential to fully enjoy this outing with peace of mind. In winter—and even more so at night—the choice of route depends on many factors: weather, visibility, snow conditions, temperature, the group’s skill level, and the overall safety of the area.

This nighttime snowshoeing outing is perfect for anyone looking for a unique activity in Haute-Savoie—whether it’s for an evening with friends, a date, a family outing, or a group experience around Annecy, La Clusaz, Le Grand-Bornand, or Manigod.
